CV Student to Play in Amputee Soccer Match at Gillette Stadium following MLS Game

Sports are something that draws people together, something that you enjoy doing with friends and teammates, and that you want to do despite circumstances that might arise. One Chenango Valley student has gotten the opportunity to continue to play soccer in miraculous ways, having had to overcome so much along the way.

Damon Goga is a three-sport athlete for the Warriors, who also happens to be a cancer patient and amputee. Despite having a prosthetic leg, he continues to compete with a high intensity and competitiveness, and travels all around to do so. This weekend, he is getting the opportunity to head to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to play at the home of the MLS’s New England Revolution for the New England Amputee Soccer Team.

“It’s really exciting. I’m hoping to get out there and show off a little bit,” said Goga. “That’s all I can think about for the past few weeks.”

The team will play immediately following the New England Revolution’s league match against New York City FC that kicks off at 7:30 pm on Saturday. This is the second full-length amputee soccer game ever held at Gillette Stadium, once again against Metro NY. The match offers sports fans a unique chance to witness some of the best players in amputee soccer, with Goga right there with them.

“We get to watch the game before, and then we go down and we get to play our game.”

The game is taking place on Saturday, the 19th, for Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month and will stream on the USA Amputee Soccer’s official YouTube channel.
