Corey Laycock clinches U.S. Amputee Soccer Cup Golden Glove
New England Amputee Soccer goalkeeper Corey Laycock claimed the Golden Glove award at the 2024 U.S. Amputee Soccer Cup.
Helping the Revs to an undefeated, second-place finish at the second-annual tournament in Cambridge, MA., the shot-stopper conceded just four goals, starring with a string of brilliant saves.
Thrilled with his team’s undefeated display, especially with the unfortunate absence of captain Nico Calabria on Day Two (after the skipper suffered a shoulder injury against Colorado), Laycock asserted he couldn’t have been more proud to have claimed the award in a Revolution jersey.
“Earning the Golden Glove was a true honor – not only for myself, but the Revolution Amputee Soccer Association as a whole,” he said.
“Bringing attention to the hard work put in by Revolution players is fantastic. Being recognized as the best goalkeeper in the tournament was extremely validating, since I started playing goalkeeper three years ago in 2021.
“I hope it brings my teammates a sense of pride that they know their goalkeeper is working hard to stop everything he faces. As a goalkeeper, everyone will always remember your mistakes – but now, as a Golden Glove winner in the U.S. Amputee Soccer National Championship, I hope they remember my effort, hard work, and determination to keep clean sheets for our team.
“The honor of wearing the Revolution logo on my chest will always drive me to excel as a goalkeeper. Go, Revs!”
